Dear Friends:
STATE OF NEW YORK
OFFICE OF THE STATE COMPTROLLER
110 STATE STREET
ALBANY, NY 12236
Greetings to all those gathered this evening for the 24th Annual Gala hosted by the National Supermarket Association. Since 1989, the NSA has worked to protect and advance the interests of independent supermarket owners in New York and throughout the eastern United States.
Founded by a small group of Hispanic entrepreneurs, the National Supermarket Association has grown to represent some 400 supermarkets with close to 16,000 employees. Member stores are located predominantly in minority neighborhoods, which historically were often abandoned by the large chains, and NSA members continue to embrace the mission of bringing healthy foods, wide-ranging selections and excellent customer service to traditionally underserved communities. In addition, as the booming Hispanic market becomes increasingly attractive to businesses of all types, the NSA’s longstanding expertise in this area has enabled it to reach out and counsel corporations about marketing strategies that will appeal to Hispanic retailers and consumers. As a trade association, the NSA advocates vigorously for independent store owners and the people they serve in both the private and the public sectors, recognizing the essential role that nutritious, affordable and appetizing food choices play in vibrant communities. The dedicated officers, board and members of the National Supermarket Association are feeding individuals and families, sustaining neighborhoods and building a happier, healthier future for all.
Best wishes for a joyful celebration and continued success. Sincerely,
Thomas P. DiNapoli State Comptroller
