PATRIA NUÑEZ GENERATIONAL LEADER AWARDS OWNER OPERATOR Born in Los Cacaos, Dominican Republic, Patria Núñez is the daughter of Ramón Vargas, a native of Los Ranchos, and Ceferina Rodríguez, from Valverde Mao. She is married to Ángel R. Núñez, and together, they are proud parents to their daughter, Angelina. Passionate about the sciences, Patria pursued Bioanalysis and Microbiology at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) before earning her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Pedro Henríquez Ureña National University. In 1978, during the African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak in the Dominican Republic, she underwent specialized training at the Plum Island Animal Disease Center in New York, a federal research facility dedicated to combating foreign animal diseases affecting livestock. Her expertise played a crucial role in addressing the crisis. After immigrating to New York, Patria transitioned into the supermarket industry, initially working alongside her brother, Ramón Vargas. With dedication and entrepreneurial spirit, she and her husband established and successfully operated their own supermarket, building a thriving business and making a lasting impact in their community.
