It is an honor and privilege to name Jose Arturo Payamps as the National Supermarket Association Member of the year. Jose Arturo Payamps is the definition of the American Dream realized. Simply known as “Arturo” was born in Santiago the Dominican Republic, the son of Arturo Payamps Sr. and Mercedes Alvarez. His parents from a very young age told him that the principle of a good life is honesty and hard work. Not only did they say it, but they lived it as an example for Arturo, something he has carried as a badge of honor his entire life. Arturo attended Colegio San Rafael school where he received his formal education. Arturo has always had the mindset to work hard, never giving up in his pursuit of achieving his goals. The drive of pursuing his dreams with the understanding that dreams do not have borders neither does aspiration when led him to migrated to the United States. Arturo embarked into a new world and culture and all the challenges that it brings. That dream started with his first job in the United States in a factory, something he said, “was very hard but learned about determination and hard work.” Arturo entered the retail food industry in 2002 as a line stock man in a supermarket in Brooklyn, New York. A year later through grit and his commitment to learn, he was promoted to manager, a position of which he was very as proud. He continued to climb up the ranks, he supervised four stores within the A&E group (one of the largest independent store owner groups in the Tri-state area). He once again showed his work ethic, drive, and dedication to his position, and has been elevated to be part of the executive leadership team of the A&E Group. When asked what he attributes his success, he stated four things. One the upbringing by his parents and family, Two, the relationship both professional and personal with a successful leader such as Anthony Espinal, the love he has for his family, and his strong faith in God. Arturo states “the greatest gift I have received is the love of my family, my kids Noel, Erwin, and Nikolas and the love my life my partner, my wife Noelia. Through perseverance, hard work and the drive to achieve my ultimate goal which is to provide for my family and the community with his work with FUPAC organization. This young man has illustrated that through the path of hard work, tenacity, loyalty, and integrity all dreams are possible.
