Key Food Stores Co-Operative, Inc. Chief Executive Officer
Dean Janeway has been the Chief Executive Officer of Key Food Stores Co-operative, Inc. since October 2008. Key Food is a Co-Operative of supermarkets founded in 1937 in Brooklyn, New York and over the last five years has been one of the fastest growing retailers in the Northeast. Since Dean has become Chief Executive Officer, the Co-op has grown successfully in both size and scale. Further expansion is continually on the horizon, and under Dean’s leadership, the Co-op has grown from 102 to 212 stores (108%). During this time, retail sales have increased from $890 million dollars to $2.3 billion dollars (158%) and profitability has risen from $16M to $39 million (144%); both continue to do so each year. Most recently, the company has successfully acquired 23 former A&P banner stores, as a result of the bankruptcy. This purchase has, for the first time ever, placed Key Food at over 200 stores and over $2 billion dollars in retail sales – both new records for the company and also significantly impacts the competitive retail landscape.
Dean joined Key Food in November 2005 as the Senior Director of Advertising and Retail Services. He had a high level of success in all assignments and special projects. In 2007, he assumed the additional responsibility for the IT Department and successfully led all information technology initiatives for the organization.
Prior to Key Food, Dean held several positions with the Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company, one of the world’s leading manufacturers and marketers of confectionery products. Dean joined the Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company in 2001 as the Vice President of Sales for the Wal-Mart business globally. He successfully managed the global P&L for the Wal-Mart business across 10 different countries. In this role, he led a multifunctional sales team of 25 with dedicated support for 35 national and regional grocery customers.
Prior to Wrigley, he spent 10 years with the Campbell Soup Company in Camden, New Jersey, where he had a successful and diversified career involving marketing, sales and customer relations.
